San Mateo Isabela is known as the Agro-Ecological destination in the Philippines and also the Mungo Capital of the Philippines. Mungbian or also known as "Mungo" is an erect bushy annual bean that is widely cultivated in warm regions for it's edible. Usually, the color of mungo is green. It is planted before planting "palay". It helps the soil to be fertile so that you will no longer have to use organic fertilizers because the mungo plant itself is an organic fertilizer when decompose.
Here in San Mateo, they call the mungo as the 'BLACK GOLD' because it is the main product of San Mateonians. They can make pancit mungo, mungo ice cream, and mungo chips.
Dairy farm also exist, they have cows from Ireland. Their finish products are fresh cow milk with different flavors such as mocha and milk chocolate. They also have pastillas, gelatin and ice cream made from fresh milk.
So if you are in foods, you can visit and eat in Leonels. Foods there are high class and delicious, but affordable for everyone. You can also visit the Kutsara't Tinidor wherein they serve the infamous and flavorful “Batil Patung”.
San Mateo also have a Little Baguio, you can find it in San Marcos. During summer, particularly in May, you can watch street dance and visit the Balatong Village where you can find products made by mungo and other foods.
